Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
- Purpose
The purpose of this document is to establish clear procedures, responsibilities, and expectations for all members of the Department of Justice within Cross State Line RP.
The DOJ ensures fair application of the law, structured legal roleplay, and oversight of legal processes across all departments.
- Structure
The Department of Justice operates under a unified structure with three primary legal roles:
- Attorneys (Licensed Civilians)
- Prosecutors (DOJ Members)
- Judges (Appointed DOJ Members)
Attorneys are not part of the DOJ rank structure but operate under DOJ oversight.
- General Principles
All DOJ members shall:
- Act with neutrality and fairness
- Ensure due process is respected
- Base decisions on evidence and law
- Maintain professionalism at all times
- Support realistic and engaging roleplay
Situations not explicitly covered shall be handled using sound judgment and good faith.
- Roles and Responsibilities
4.1 Attorneys (Defense)
Attorneys may:
- Represent suspects and defendants
- Advise clients on legal matters
- Challenge evidence and charges
Attorneys shall not:
- Interfere with active police operations
- Act as prosecutors or judges
- Abuse legal processes to disrupt roleplay
4.2 Prosecutors
Prosecutors shall:
- Represent the government in legal matters
- Review charges and evidence
- Decide whether to pursue or drop charges
- Work with law enforcement when required
Prosecutors shall not:
- Act as defense attorneys
- Act as judges
- Pursue cases without reasonable evidence
4.3 Judges
Judges shall:
- Preside over hearings and court cases
- Ensure fair and impartial proceedings
- Make final rulings and decisions
- Interpret the Penal Code where required
Judges shall not:
- Participate in investigations
- Act as prosecutors or defense
- Show bias toward any party
- Conflict of Interest
DOJ members shall not participate in a case where they:
- Were previously involved in another role
- Have a personal relationship with involved parties
- Have a direct interest in the outcome
Such cases must be reassigned.
- Legal Process
Step 1 – Arrest
- Law enforcement makes an arrest based on probable cause
- Charges are applied using the Penal Code
Step 2 – Legal Representation
- The suspect may request an attorney
- Attorneys may be contacted if available
- If unavailable, processing may continue
Step 3 – Case Review
- Minor cases may be handled directly by law enforcement
- Major or disputed cases may be reviewed by a prosecutor
Step 4 – Court (if applicable)
Court proceedings may occur when:
- Charges are disputed
- High-level crimes are involved
- A judge determines review is necessary
Step 5 – Ruling
- The judge issues a final decision
- The decision is binding unless overturned by higher authority
- Court Conduct
All participants shall:
- Remain respectful and professional
- Allow each party to speak
- Avoid interrupting proceedings
- Follow instructions from the presiding judge
Disruptive behavior may result in removal from court.
- Evidence
Valid evidence may include:
- Officer observations
- Witness statements
- Audio or video recordings
- Written reports
Evidence must be reasonable and relevant to the case.
- Oversight Authority
The DOJ may:
- Review actions taken by law enforcement
- Provide legal clarification
- Resolve disputes between parties
- Ensure proper application of the Penal Code
The DOJ does not exist to block roleplay but to support fair outcomes.
- Limitations
The DOJ shall not:
- Interfere with minor or routine law enforcement actions
- Overcomplicate standard roleplay scenarios
- Delay gameplay unnecessarily
DOJ involvement should enhance roleplay, not hinder it.
- Role Restrictions
- A player may only hold one DOJ legal role at a time
- Switching roles requires approval
- Judges are appointed positions only
- Professional Conduct
DOJ members shall:
- Communicate clearly and respectfully
- Avoid abuse of authority
- Maintain separation between IC and OOC matters
Failure to maintain standards may result in removal from the DOJ.

This SOP does not cover every possible scenario.
All DOJ members are expected to act in good faith, apply sound judgment, and prioritize fair and realistic roleplay at all times.
Failure to do so may result in disciplinary action.
